if you want a sling bag for the sake of having a sling bag this is a definite five star now coming from slightly larger Rush 12 24 and so on bags the only thing this Moab 10 lacks is the number of pockets and because it's just a little bit smaller if you really try to put anything like you would say in a rush 12 bag wants to stretch a little bit and as I was trying to make this a 24-hour bag it was just too filled and with the lack of pockets I was putting everything in Ziploc bags in the bottom so I would recommend unless you absolutely had to have a sling bag I would say go for the new Rush 12 slightly slightly larger but better pockets and you can actually fill it without it getting all weird especially the pockets in the main compartment on the Moab 10 I found them almost unusable because if you put anything in the pockets you were greatly taking from the main compartment space and this doesn't seem to happen with the rush 12Great bag, heavily built and solid, not a thing to complain about.I've had a bunch of bags/packs, the majority were no name off brand ones. Many were garbage that began to fall apart within weeks to months. The last one I had before this was similar to the Condor brand 2 strap type that is the same size as this bag, I don't remember who made it. It's held up for about 3 years but that's with medium to light use and it's showing it's age.I thought it was a great bag and it is a good one for the price, I think I gave about $30 for it at the time. This bag though is much better in all aspects but price, however quality costs money. The 10 just shows what a good bag really is and until you actually get a hold of one in person you have no idea. The material is thicker, stitching is better, buckles are better and the zippers are amazingly great. The inner pockets are as tough as the outside, most cheap bags have thin pockets and the divider between compartments is thin as well. The pockets and organization in this bag is just laid out perfectly, everything just has a place to go. Is there room for improvement, sure, as everybody carries different things but this is the first bag that kept me from immediately thinking I needed an external pouch for something.I'm 5'6" and 140lbs, the bag carries comfortably and isn't too small or large. I have loaded it up to a weight of 25lbs. to see where it becomes uncomfortable. I'd say 25 is doable on a short trip but for hiking or long walking travel I'd say 15 is about max. This is reasonable as generally you shouldn't expect a bag that's over 10%-15% your body weight to be comfortable for long time frames. This of course depends on you fitness level and such, some may be more and others less. This bag can easily be over packed due to it's size and being a single strap can make it more uncomfortable quicker. If you're the type of person who carries a lot and it's heavier stuff, get a 2 strap. If you just carry minimal or light things, this is perfect. I mainly carry a small 1st aid kit, a book, notepad, chromebook and a hand gun. I do also have a few 'survival supplies but they are small and light. The main weight I carry is my son's supplies, he's 10 and special needs. I carry some diapers, wipes, spare clothing, feeding bag, couple of boxes of Peptamin JR (his formula). I may on occasion carry more if it's a overnight hospital stay, mainly supplies for me. It holds all this plus has plenty of room for more and considering I'm not doing a lot of walking, I don't see the single strap as bad.I'm happy with my choice as a long trip or overnight bag. I will say for short trips and such, I'll still carry my Maxpedition Remora more often and that's due to size, it fits nicely on his wheel chair. Then again the 10 may become my me bag and the Remora more of his bag. In our situation one small and one medium bag is much easier to manage than one large bag, as they drag on the wheels of his chair. This is a great edc, camping and duty bag, It would also make a great diaper bag for those who want something a little different, especially since it holds a hydration bladder. It is high at $100 but honestly worth the price in my opinion just based on the quality of what you receive.i've used the moab 10 as my edc the last 4 months & i love it!i've always liked to be prepared for whatever & have been working out my edc for decades... i used to carry an old jansport backpack in college, then a succession of messenger type bags, then i more or less downgraded to a reusable shopping bag style bag that i could just toss a lot of loose stuff into, that thing wore out after 6 years, & so i resurrected one of my messenger bags, but it just wasn't big enough for all the old & new things i became interested in carrying again... after much research i decided on a tactical bag because of the add-on potential of the molle platform... enter the 5.11 moab 10!i looked at a lot of bags, but the moab 10 stood out for it's organizational & practical features... upon arrival i was very impressed with the sturdy construction & quality finish of the product, although i was a little concerned because the zippers were stiff & hard to operate at first, but after a couple weeks of regular use they became smooth & reliable... the pockets & compartments have filled up fast & i usually have just enough room left over for incidentals i pick up during the day or on the way home...as i said, i was interested in adding on, & so i did, the moab 10 is currently sporting a condor water bottle pouch on one side (which as it turns out is the perfect size for a basic mess/cook kit), a condor gadget pouch on the other side, & on the front there is a cheap knockoff of the maxpedition combat monkey admin pouch, along with a mini maglite aaa led full flap holster, & there is plenty of molle real estate to spare... with the exception of the water bottle pouch which itself is covered in molle webbing, the other add-on pouches serve to cover up the molle & dress down the tactical appearance of the bag... so i'm very fond of pouches & the molle options of the moab 10!i also love the clamshell opening when i need full access to the main compartment & assorted pockets, makes it a breeze to pack or unpack... the front admin compartment has a great variety of small & large pockets for most all the essentials you need to get to quick... i don't use hydration bladder systems so the back hydration compartment, which is actually quite large when expanded, holds a change of clothes & would alternately fit my macbook if necessary, this makes the moab 10, as well as the other rush bags, great for carrying a laptop since that area is padded, protected, & is separate from the main compartment with it's own zippers...while the ambidextrous sling strap is a nice option, as a righty i primarily carry this bag either casually hanging off my right shoulder or over my head onto the left shoulder, however the fact that the storage area for the strap buckles completely passes thru behind the padding it would be a great place for adding a waist strap to redistribute some of the load if carrying this bag for an extended period hiking or biking etc.with all my stuff, including a full 40oz. of water & 20oz. of coffee in a klean kanteen insulated thermos, the bag weighs in at approximately 20lb., pretty hefty for such a small bag, but it has always been comfortable carried around town or on short hikes, & i've never had any trouble with the stitching on the shoulder strap or carry handle giving way... i've become confident that the little moab 10 can handle any load i can fit in there!i've rarely felt a need to use the compression straps, but it's reassuring to know they are there if i need them, & even though they only come installed on the top, the included set of straps for the 5.11 rush tier system will double as makeshift compression straps for the lower portion of the bag to snug it up & keep it lean should the need arise...as other reviewers have lamented, i have also found the zippered sunglasses pocket on top, when in use, interferes with the hydration tube port, but since i don't use a hydration system & i do stuff the sunglasses pocket full it's not a big detractor... the comms pouch on the shoulder strap is a bit out of the way to store my iphone & since that is usually carried on my person anyway i have found this pocket a convenient place to store my earbuds & a couple other misc. items...finally, while i don't carry a firearm, the quick access weapon compartment is a super stealthy addition & functions as advertised, however when i have my bag loaded up, especially with the admin compartment full, the quick access compartment isn't that easy to get anything into or out of, just a consideration for those interested in this bag for concealed carry...i'd say my new edc project is about 75% complete & the moab 10 has inspired me to new levels of preparedness... i can wholeheartedly recommend this high quality sling bag to anyone thinking it might suit their needs as well!I bought this because I really like sling bags and was looking for something a little bigger than my existing one. It's seems well made and as I can tell the stitching and material is pretty good quality. I've no doubt it will last me quite some time.A few points of interest:-The pocket on the strap is in kind of an odd place. I'd much rather it was on the front of the strap as it would make it far more practical. It fits my phone but I think you'd struggle with larger ones such as the bigger iphones and the like. The pass through cable port is all well and good but I'd much rather have direct access to the pocket without having to take it off the bag and unplug my headphones. It's kind of a pain.-The molle webbing is very handy. I run a little heavy loaded sometimes and sometimes it's a lot easier to just tie or clip things on there when you don't have room for in the bag.-There are lots of pockets and internally and whilst this is good when you're fully loaded the utility of them is somewhat reduced as the load flattens them out.- The space in the main compartment is decent I can fit a couple of camera bodies 2 big tele lenses a few primes and 2 flash units. To get the full capacity you're going to need to remove the plastic panel they use to stiffen the back ( more on this next)-The sling is comfortable but it can be a bit of a pain in that it can hang quite low if you've got heavy items in there. There's a plastic panel in the back that was causing me a decent bit of discomfort as it's shaped and dug in my back. I'm happy to say however this can be removed and it makes it a lot more comfortable. It's a hell of a snug fit and getting it out takes a lot of force! When you've removed it though it is frees up a lot of internal space in the bag which was inaccessible to place larger items. It's a perfectly fine bag but I'm not sure I'd buy this again as I think there may be better alternatives out there from the Vanqest or Maxpedition lines but they are a lot more expensive too. For the money I guess this is fine. This is my urban EDC bag and is used almost on a daily basis along with my 5.11 push bag. And 5.11 foldable scrunchy type bag. This bag has travelled with me extensively across Egypt for the last year; it's tough! You can put it over either shoulder but I cut off the strap offering right shoulder wear to cut back on weight and improve space a little, I've customised mine further with moral patches and a portapow single plate solar panel...I now have a multi purpose EDC bag that can charge my phone, tablet, battery charger, desk fan and USB LED lamp...A word of caution....customising this urban military grade bag in the way I've described will draw attention from EgyptIan customs and secret police, who'll quickly discover they want one too...For you American types there's a hidden pocket that will service your Glock. .. I put other stuff in that and to date its a pocket that has never been discovered on any customs type search...so best to disclose it and they'll like you all the more for it.It's not the biggest bag and it's meant to cover your needs for 10 hours hence it's name...but with careful planning you'll get a lot more in it ... I love it.Don't be American; don't stuff it with all manner of apocalypse ready zombie killer stuff or you'll hate wearing it quickly... I review my carriage in accordance with my daily needs and location ie, in the UK I carry a foldable brolly a tac torch tac pen and a foldable jacket...In Egypt I carry a hydration pack, soap and a baton etc etc.Good quality American product.Highly recommendedHope this helps.I’ve been after a decent everyday backpack for ages. I’m retired and one of those weird people who like to carry a waterproof, some small binoculars, a camera, sketchbook, pencils, sit-mat etc. and have room in the bag for anything else I might pick up as I wander aimlessly round. I love urban sketching and apart from hill walking where I need a proper pack, I also do some easy short walks on the flat (up to about 5 miles) so a decent pack that would satisfy both needs (town and country) would be an added bonus. Out of interest I already owned a 5.11 Tactical Rush so my experience with the 5.11 series was well established before I bought the MOAB.I’ve been using a Tamrac 5534 camera bag designed for an SLR and four lenses as my bag of choice – it’s a messenger type bag but not too big and it just about took all my bits and pieces. However, I saw that 5.11 had a shoulder sling bag and knowing how good the Rush 12 was I bought it.It’s excellent. Something unique is the ambidextrous sling-style shoulder strap, accommodating either a left or right-handed user. The bag can also be spun around from the back to the chest while being worn, making it easy to work out of, or to access what the advertising blub calls “the hidden weapon pocket”. If you go on You Tube you’ll see a few videos introducing the bag. The “hidden weapon pocket” is between the front main pouch and the main compartment and is closed with Velcro. On You Tube the demonstrators show how it takes a gun (typical American) and if I make a short film I’ll show how it takes a sketchbook and pencils! It’s all about being quick on the draw isn’t it?I like the buckle system on the base that takes a jacket, the lined pocket for your glasses and the way the pocket openings can be in just the right place no matter whether you’re right or left handed. A lot of thought has gone into this bag. I also prefer it to the Tamrac because the shoulder strap is wider and less wearing when the bag’s heavy. On the downside the special pocket on the top of the bag for your phone or MP3 player is too small for the iPhone 6 (the normal one) which is a shame because there’s an outlet for headsets. You’ll also need a rain cover for the bag – there isn’t one provided. Apart from that you could nit-pick at minor things but overall it’s excellent. The flag and name tape Velcro patches is an new one for me so I’ve bought some Union Jacks and a couple of funnies from the web so they get used.Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It’s here to stay. Does anyone want to buy my Tamrac?Delivered quickly by military1st and a good product. First of all I'm not going to just gush praise on 5.11 unless I find their products truly useful I am going to give you my honest opinion. I own a Rush 24 & 72 and bought them because they are robust first and foremost!Moab 10: Very well made, sturdy construction, comfortable when positioned correctly. However this is one of those packs that seems like you can carry more than you actually can. You can fit a fair bit of kit in it however you lose functionality. i.e. if you use the capacity of the front organisation pocket you are not really going to have much access to the concealed pocket ( I just have a 7" tablet in it and find it a struggle to remove when the front pocket is full) so not much use if you're military /police etc carrying a pistol in it. (Odd as this is it's tactical selling point)The hydration pouch also encroaches in to the main compartment when full. So: If you want this pack to carry general day to day items 15" laptop, netbook, general pads, paper, camera, jacket, first aid kit etc etc it's great. If it's for military / concealed carry etc I'm not sure I'd find it that useful unless it was pretty much empty! That said it's great quality and just right for wandering about with. Hope this helps! :)Update: I have now tested this as a (Mobile operations attachment bag...attached ). As a small pack on it's own it's good but attached to a Rush 24 or 72 when both have kit in them is not at all practical and frankly looks very silly. Nice idea in theory but a bit daft in reality.(Having several feet of bags wobbling about behind you is'nt good for balance or your back) Notice in the 5.11 or YouTube demos of the tier system both packs are basically empty or just have light packing material in them.Usual 5.11 quality, built like a tank. Will get a lifetime of use and abuse. I was hoping to use as my EDC for work, however for this purpose it has failed. It is very uncomfortable when carrying anything over a few kilos. This is not a design fault; I have learned this comes with the territory with sling bags. You just can't get the weight distribution that a rucksack offers. For this reason, I will be reverting to my Rush 72. I will however keep it in my arsenal which will be used circumstantially when the time is right. I am happy to have it in my repertoire and don't regret acquiring it. If you are carrying an extremely light load, e.g. lunch and a jacket, it will serve you well. I've found even a litre of water added to this makes it unpleasant to wear on your back. That said, I have found it works well as an off-the-back single shoulder bag for short distances with heavier loads. Over all, extremely impressed with the quality, but unfortunately sling bags in general are not for me. Hope this helps in your decision.
